Havering Homes, Streets and Noise: What We See on Survey
Gidea Park is Havering's best-known period area. Its Romford Garden Suburb houses, built for exhibitions in 1911 and 1934, include Arts and Crafts and early modernist designs with small casements and some steel windows. Upminster and Emerson Park have large 1920s and 1930s detached houses, and Romford, Hornchurch and Harold Wood are mostly interwar semis with bay windows. Havering-atte-Bower and North Ockendon have older rural cottages, some of them listed.
