Barking & Dagenham Homes, Streets and Noise: What We See on Survey
The Becontree Estate, built in the 1920s and 1930s as one of the largest council estates in the world, makes up much of the borough. Its brick cottages and short terraces have modest casement windows, and many already have replacement uPVC units that have aged badly. Secondary glazing is a cheaper way to stop draughts and cut heat loss than replacing them again.
